Reply To: Experiment with different resins
I’d say the Vorex is more plastic-like, but there are rubber-like resins. The flexible base I think is just a result of being a thin feature that still needs some post-curing time in bright light, but...

Yeah, chemically, resin is pretty different from thermoplastic (e.g. abs, nylon, PLA). It’s more similar to two-part curing or moisture curing room-temperature-vulcanizing polymers, like paint or...

@Todd, I’m not sure I posted the pics of the support overcure tests I did with the Venus Creator clear. This is the part as-designed:This what it looks like printed with well-pigmented resin (FTD IB in...

@co3dprints on the topic of finishing, if you’re talking about sanding and painting, generally resin should be easier to sand than ABS or PLA, and comparable to paint. Resin won’t melt due to the...

Thanks Jkao. I hope the 3dm abs comes down in price at some point. It’s pretty darned expensive and since I can print ABS on my Zortrax, all this information is very helpful. I have quite few resins’...

3DM ABS (or Stratasys Digital ABS, or any other photopolymer resin with “ABS” in its name) isn’t ABS. It’s resin with formulated properties similar to ABS, usually for some limited duration of wear...

Don’t have a chemical background. That all makes sense. Yes I purchased the Titan1 for 3D sculptures that require fine details and it does this admirably. I never considered mechanical parts until I...

co3Dprints/jkao,Thanks for the feedback.Changing laptops is not an option for me as I just bought this laptop (brand new) specifically to run my Titan so I’m not willing to go buy another brand new...

Unfortunately, that meshmixer file is long gone. The support diameter was probably around 2.5mm, but I’m not 100% sure. The support diameter should not, however, influence your layer curing time. Larger...

Just found the manual for my UV oven. It states the UV output is between 200-275nm waveband. Doesn’t this mean that it is infact UV curing but just slower than a 400 or 405nm UV light source? Just...

I think your oven is for sterilization,it irradiate in UV-C(wavelength 280-200nm). UV resin is curing in UV-A. You had better measure in a measuring instrument of UV-A(wavelength 400-315nm).

That explains it. It is a sterilization oven. Lame. Thank you for clarifying.

Cool, your build plates came out really nice.I machined one, and it came out functional, but looks like crap compared to yours because I had a lot of deflection while I was milling and have much less...

Yes, the plate look nice and I had them anodized, I did not do any other sort of surface finish other than a fine fly cut, I had nothing fall off yet. I’ve done about 20 prints with the small ones,...
